Utica, NY 13502
On the first Tuesday of every month, Nail Creek Pub is alive with the sounds of Ireland. Anywhere from 10 to 20 or more musicians from all over Central New York get together to play live Traditional Irish Music.
Barry Foy’s Field Guide to the Irish Music Session defines a session as:
…a gathering of Irish traditional musicians for the purpose of celebrating their common interest in the music by playing it together in a relaxed, informal setting, while in the process generally beefing up the mystical cultural mantra that hums along uninterruptedly beneath all manifestations of Irishness worldwide.
The Nail Creek Seisiún began shortly after the pub first opened in 2008 and has been going strong ever since. The event is put on by Craobh Dugan which is a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eirann. Craobh Dugan celebrates Traditional Irish music, dance, and language in the Utica area and they sure do put on a great show.
The event begins around 7:30 and ends about 9:30 (although sometime they keep on until midnight). We hope you to will come down to soak up some Irish Culture as you enjoy Central New York’s greatest session. If you are a musician who’s interested in playing then by all means feel free to join in!
